First Meeting and Trips!!

Happy Wednesday everyone!! We were so so happy to see so many of you at the first meeting of the year last night! Thank you to everyone who was able to make it! If you weren't able to, don't worry! You can register to be a member (pay dues and sign the waiver) at every meeting this year!

We'll give a quick recap of what we talked about for those who weren't able to make it! Any and all information about how the club runs, where/when we meet, what we do on trips can be found in the FAQ channel of our club discord! Discord Channel invite link: https://discord.gg/Ctq3jr4C Please go look at that to get an idea of what the club does and if there's any questions there that aren't answered feel free to reply to this email and ask!

We have three trips coming up! To sign up, all you have to do is fill out the google form associated with the trip you want to go on and wait to hear back from the club! If you don't hear back in the next few days, it probably means this time you weren't able to get on a trip (this has to do with amounts of gear we have, drivers going to the trip who can take people and size limitations of the actual trip). If you don't get on one of these trips, don't worry! There will be plenty more this semester (pretty much every weekend) and some bigger trips. If you sign up for three or more trips and don't get on any of them, please come talk to us at a meeting or send me an email!

TRIPS!!!

1. Breakneck (climbing): This is a fairly local day trip with 35-foot walls where you'll get to do some climbing!! Any and all questions about this trip can be directed to Will Harrison awh24@pitt.edu! Climbing experience is preferred! This trip will be taking place on September 10th (this Sunday). Signup Sheet: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdXwZPNOZD-I6pfYI-LocOEQgPwUQ4jxBX0-dH7GItUNkWXsA/viewform

2. West Newton! (Bikepacking): We're going bikepacking to West Newton this Saturday! We will be leaving from Oakland Saturday afternoon and riding ~38 miles along the GAP to spend the night at Cedar Creek Campground. We'll be stopping along the way at The Outpost to refuel with some smashburgers and fries for dinner. You will need a bike for this trip so if you are looking for a new ride or are in need of some repairs stop by the Bike Cave sometime this week and they will get you right. This trip will be an overnight September 9th-10th (this weekend)! Signup Sheet: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc-ZS6EzLYCear--oPzE40feeq5qZWFVko_yTSVbwqgjjFZsA/viewform

3. Allegheny National Forest (Backpacking)!: FIRST BACKPACKING TRIP OF THE SCHOOLYEAR!!! This trail is very beginner friendly and has a beautiful campground at the halfway point right on the reservoir (potential swimming opportunity). It takes around 3 hours to get there so we will be leaving around 8:30-9am on Saturday the 16th and getting back the 17th. It will be around a 6 mile hike to the campground and around the same distance on the way back. Time permitting on Sunday we can go check out Jakes Rocks Overlook as we leave. Oh yeah and there are no toilets. Signups: https://forms.gle/mi7ontBqqQER4Z3A8

If none of these trips interest you, don't worry! We'll be having a big camping trip the weekend after Allegheny National Forest at Ohiopyle that is a mix of hiking, climbing and tent camping! Look out for those!

Counting the minutes to our next meeting (9/12 @ 9pm outside WPU facing Cathy)! Have an amazing rest of your weeks!

With lots of granola love,

Outdoors Club (and me, Sophie Meyer, secretary)!

P.P.S: If you're hestitant to sign up for a trip, just think of eating smores around a campfire with (special) juice and stopping at Sheetz before and after the trip. (think of the Shmagel).
